FAQ'S

Are you registered with insurance companies?

Yes. We are registered with all major leading insurance companies such as Bupa, Axa and Aviva.

Do you only see private patients?

No. We also see self-paying clients who want help with a variety of complaints and issues.

What is the difference between a physiotherapist, a chiropractor and a sports therapist?

Physiotherapists are used in the acute injury stage and patients can see them with private medical insurance. Sports Therapists only work with self-paying patients and can be involved from the acute stage right through the rehab process. A chiropractor manipulates joints, mainly the spine. Active Hub staff may refer clients to a clinical chiropractic partner if necessary.

Can OPTIMUM refer me to a different type of treatment if they think it is necessary?

Yes. We have a range of partner practitioners who offer a different service to us and that includes the likes of chiropractors, osteopaths. We are also partnered with counsellor Nicky Carling who offers a host of therapies, such as hypnotherapy, Bach Flower remedies and counselling, through her business Mayflower Therapies .

Do you offer any other products or services?

Yes. Optimumhas a range of purposefully-designed training and rehab aids called Active Kit. Our foam rollers and Active Bands are great for warm-ups and warm-downs and can be used during any rehab programme suggested by our therapists. We sell pain-relieving gel called Flexiseq and other items like a Compex can also be hired.

Will your therapists provide any exercises for me to aid my recovery after I have been to see you?

Yes. It is a strong part of our ethos to help you, help yourself after we have got to the root of any problem. If any exercises can help you get better before we see you again, we will explain what to do and show you how to use them in our purpose-built, on-site gym. And no skivers! We will know if you have not done them!

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see you through insurance?

Some insurance companies require a referral prior to treatment. This gives you an authorisation number to bring to the clinic so we can invoice the insurance company directly. If you are referred following a car accident, your insurance company will arrange this directly with us and we will get in touch with you to book an appointment.

How long will I wait for an appointment?

Optimum’s treatment specialists are a busy team but on occasions, there may be availability on the same day you contact us. If there is no available time on the same day of your call, Optimum will endeavour to book you in at the earliest day/time that is convenient for you.

What’s the location of the clinic and where shall I park?

The clinic’s address is 72 Wilson Street, Derby, DE1 1PL. The postcode for your SatNav is DE1 1PL. For a map of our clinic, click here. There is free on-site parking at the rear of the building. To help you find us, the clinic is next to a pedestrian crossing.

How will a sports massage help me?

It will improve blood flow and circulation and loosen tight muscles and tendon structures to improve joint mobility. It also helps re-align scar tissue and help reduce muscular spasms.

Before an event, it can warm and stimulate muscles. After an event, it helps remove waste products by flushing toxins out of your muscles and helps increase oxygen and nutrients to specific areas. It can also reduce the chance of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness).

Will you travel to an event to provide your injury management and massage services?

Yes. There is much more to Optimum than in-clinic treatment. Our Events Team travel the length and breadth of the country to provide sports massage and injury management to a range of large cycling, running and charity events such as the PMA Triathlons and professional motorocoss events. We have also been official sports injury management providers to the British Ski and Snowboard Association’s Park & Pipe team as well as a number of other semi-pro sports clubs.

If I have to cancel an appointment on the day, will I be charged?

Because we are a busy clinic, if you are unable to attend your appointment, we require 24 hours’ notice in order to reallocate your appointment to another client. Failure to give the required notice may result in a cancellation fee which could be for the full amount.

What clothes should I wear for my appointment?

Regular sportswear would be ideal such as shorts or tracksuit bottoms/jogging pants.
