How do we progress injuries at Optimum?

Injuries always have rises and falls, peaks and troughs. We strive for an average linear line that progresses over time.

Most of the time, clients, patients and athletes visit the clinic with pain and discomfort but with an ability to still carry out some activity and exercise. Clients may be, for example, training for a 10km run and cannot run more than 3km without knee pain. Our job at Optimum is to highlight the knee problem, what is limiting their running to 3km and what do we need to do address their pain and the issues they have causing it.

 Making improvements

Through time and repetitions of exercises, clients will improve. After their first batch of exercises they may be able to run, for example, 4km, but to progress to 5km and further we need to continue pushing the boundaries and threshold of their strength and injury limitations.

This will allow for progress on their journey from 3km to 10km. Along this path there may be bumpy roads where exercises may be a little too hard, or boundaries may have been pushed a little too far. This is where a therapist is key to help identify what to continue doing and what drills need to be left alone for a period of time.

Optimum have the experience to help you progress through your rehab and niggles or help improve your performance and training. Staff at Optimum have worked with Olympic skiers and snowboarders, Superbike and Enduro World Champions as well as amateur triathletes and those wanting to just move better.
